Private Thomas Sloan

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

Thomas Sloan enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 30 April and 28 June 1912 (No.708 – later Corps of Hussars No.71080). He embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

In January 1918 Sloan embarked for Egypt with a draft of North Irish Horsemen from the Antrim camp. There he was attached to the 1/1st Staffordshire Yeomanry (Queen's Own Royal Regiment), serving with that regiment in the Palestine campaign.

In October 1918 he fell ill and was admitted to hospital in Beirut. He was transferred to the Hposital Ship Assaye, arriving later that month at Alexandria.

On 9 March 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
